Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane
Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane I share my personal experience purchasing outdoor blinds from Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane. This article outlines my concerns about the product selection, the communication process, cancellation of my order, and the lessons I learned before committing to a major home improvement purchase.
A $1,200 LESSON
When you engage a specialist company, you naturally expect that the advice you receive will lead you to the right product for your needs.
That was my expectation when I contacted Modern Group.
.
.
MY GOAL WAS SIMPLE
I have a large 5 × 7 metre outdoor balcony that I enjoy using. Unfortunately, mosquitoes make it almost impossible to sit outside comfortably, so I decided to invest in quality outdoor blinds.
I explained this very clearly to the Modern Group sales representative when he visited my home.
My primary objective was not simply to install blinds—it was to stop mosquitoes from entering my outdoor living space.
As someone without expertise in outdoor blind systems, I relied on the salesperson’s knowledge and recommendations.

Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane and My Quote
THE QUOTE
The initial quotation was roughly $17,500.
After discussing various options, we agreed on a total contract price of $12,949.40, and I paid a $1,200 deposit.
At that stage, I believed I had found the right solution.
.
.
THE CONCERN THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
After the salesperson left, something occurred to me.
My balcony roof has a slight downward slope.
I wondered whether this would leave gaps where mosquitoes could still enter.
I immediately contacted Modern Group.
I was told that any gaps could be addressed using flashing at approximately $200 per metre.
Given the size of my balcony, I estimated that close to ten metres of flashing might be required.
That immediately concerned me.
From my perspective, I had agreed to a quote believing it would provide the complete solution to the problem I had described. Learning that significant additional work might be needed left me feeling uncomfortable.

Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane the final measurement appointment
THE FINAL MEASUREMENT APPOINTMENT
The day before the final measure, I contacted Modern Group again.
I explained that I was uncertain about proceeding because of my concerns.
Although I was considering cancelling the order, I decided to keep the appointment and hear what the measuring representative had to say before making a final decision.
On 15 July 2026, Modern Group’s representatives arrived.
According to my recollection of that meeting, I was told that the blinds I had contracted to purchase were not the correct blinds to stop mosquitoes from entering my balcony.
That statement shocked me.
The very reason I had contacted Modern Group was to purchase blinds that would keep mosquitoes out.
If the contracted product would not achieve that purpose, then I no longer had confidence that the project was right for me.
I informed the representatives that I would not be proceeding and that I would seek a refund of my deposit.

MODERN GROUP’S RESPONSE
Following my cancellation, I received an email from Modern Group advising that they would not proceed with my order.
In that correspondence, Modern Group stated that they believed they had fulfilled their contractual obligations professionally and reasonably throughout the process.
They also stated that they had incurred costs associated with consultations, administration, scheduling and the check measure appointment.
Modern Group offered to refund $500 of my $1,200 deposit, retaining the remaining $700 to cover those costs.
The company also indicated that this represented its final position and that it did not intend to engage in further negotiations.

Modern Group Murarrie Brisbane and Why I Felt Disappointed
WHY I FELT DISAPPOINTED
For me, this was never simply about the money.
The greatest disappointment was believing that I had relied on expert advice, only to later be told—at the final measurement stage—that the blinds I had signed a contract for would not achieve the purpose I had clearly explained from the outset.
As a consumer, I expect that when I explain exactly what outcome I am trying to achieve, the product recommended by a specialist company will be suitable for that purpose.
When that confidence disappears, so does the trust needed to continue with a purchase of more than $12,000.
.
.
WHAT I LEARNED
This experience taught me several important lessons:
- Clearly document the purpose you expect the product to achieve.
- Ask whether the quoted product will achieve that outcome without additional modifications.
- Ask whether there are any foreseeable extra costs before signing a contract.
- Obtain confirmation in writing whenever possible.
-
Don’t be afraid to pause or cancel if you lose confidence before installation begins.
